FAQS

Are the minis friendly?

Yes! The minis are very well socialized with kids and adults of all ages and sizes! We handle

the minis daily to ensure they get continued training and exposure.

Can you ride the minis?

Unfortunately not! They are too small to ride and not trained to do so. However, many minis can be trained to drive and pull a cart up to 200lbs! If your child wants to experience their visit on horseback, inquire about our larger pony that can be ridden and used for special exercises.

What do the minis eat? Can we bring treats?

The minis eat hay and a small amount of balancer to ensure they receive proper nutrition. Miniatures horses are different than horses with it comes to limiting their intake of grass and hay. They need to eat smaller amounts and take in less sugar to prevent health problems. Most minis need to avoid eating grass due to the high sugar content! This is also the reason we discourage treats. We want our minis to take in the least amount of sugar as possible!

What kind of training do they receive?

Our minis receive daily training which helps keep them friendly, consistent, and ready for visits. We train them around wheelchairs, walkers, canes and strollers. We use loud noises such as blowers, music, and car horns. They are taught to stand patiently while being groomed and bathed. They are used to riding in a minivan and taught to use a wheelchair ramp in order to load up. We also bring them inside our house to get them used to different flooring, smells, and sights that they wouldn’t usually find outside.

How long are visits and what do they entail?

Visits can be 30min or 1 hour. A lot of our younger kiddos enjoy the 30min visits. Visits can be catered to the child’s age and ability. For example, if you have a 6 year old that is a sensory seeker, we have special sensory bins we can arrange. If you have a 10 year old that is just a true animal lover, we can spend extra time grooming the minis and leading them. We also have friendly chickens we can hold and collect eggs from. To finish a visit, we like to end with a craft your child can take home.

Do you work with therapists to address specific issues my child is having?

Yes! We have partnered with Seaside Therapy who offers PT, OT and speech therapy. We would love for your child to be able to come work alongside our mini horses during their therapy sessions and reach their goals all while enjoying time outside with animals.

Who is welcome to come and visit?

Everyone! We welcome any and all ages, abilities, and skills. Come visit us if you have a child that is a true animal lover and wants to come spend time with the minis. If your child needs to work on specific goals such as following instructions, fine motor skills, or remaining calm around animals we can help reach those goals together!

Do you allow group visits?

Absolutely! We welcome homeschool groups, private groups, large families, camps, and school field trips. We try to limit the number of kids but please inquire about making special arrangements for larger groups.

Where do the minis sleep?

The minis are left out to roam and explore during the daylight hours. When it gets dark, the minis each go into their own personal stall where it is safe and protected from any predators. They can actually sleep standing up but to get the important REM sleep they need to lie down!
